Hey all my lovely readers hope you are all doing great :)
Today's post is a book review. I have only ever written one book review before, and that was for a contest I didn't win, so no promises that this is going to be any good, but I'm going to give it a go :)
Sophie's Bakery For The Broken Hearted is about a woman, named Sophie believe it or not ha-ha, who has recently lost her husband to cancer. The book starts 3 months after he has died, and she has been told to join a grief group, because she isn't coping, she drove her car through her garage door. She feels like life is pointless without her husband. She isn't doing her job well, which she only got because she needed a better paying job, but still doing what she likes, and ends up being fired for going in wearing her bathrobe and bunny slippers. All she does is eat Oreos and ice cream and wants to stay in bed all day. She breaks down in the frozen food section in her supermarket and can't face ever going back there. Her mother-in-law tries to help, but by getting rid of Ethan's stuff, which she can't bear, so keeps them all and gives up her furniture to the goodwill van that comes to pick up Ethan's stuff.
In the end she decides to move, to be closer to her best friend. She joins a new grief group and gets a job as a waitress. The job doesn't go well, she spills food on costumers and sits on their laps, she ends up being demoted to salad girl. This is the break she needed, even though it doesn't seem like it at first. She also joins Big Sisters mentoring group, sorry I can't remember what it is called, where she meets Crystal, a troubled teenager. It is hard work mentoring Crystal, and Sophie thinks of giving up.
Soon things start looking up for Sophie, she even starts seeing someone, but he breaks her heart. A few weeks after he dumps her, he asks for her forgiveness. And you are like will she, she should, even though he dumped her, he made her feel happy, but your going to have to read the book for yourself to find out if she takes him back. She also opens her own bakery, and has an opening party, where she invites the entire town, and you are hoping that everything goes right for her because she deserves it.
So basically this book, is just about grief and learning to deal with loss. It shows that it does take a long time to get over your loss, you'll never completely get over it, but you will learn to deal with it and be able to move on.
The story is so original and unpredictable. I often read a lot of romance based books and they tend to be really predictable, girl meets boy, they have difficulties, the get back together, get married and live happily ever after. But not with this book, you never know what is going to happen, and if Sophie will ever be happy again.
Overall I completely recommend this book. You will fall in love with the characters. I bought my copy from my local library, so I'm not 100% certain it is available to buy any-more. I would suggest looking on Amazon or Ebay. The author is Lolly Winston.
I hope you all enjoyed this review, please feel free to leave comments letting me know what you think and how to improve.
Love you all xoxo <3 xxxx
